If one would walk into our house or office, the obvious first thing one would notice: books, many, many, many books.\u00a0 Predominately history books but there are shelves dedicated to Anthony Trollope, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Saul Bellow, Charles Dickens, Wright Morris, Evelyn Waugh, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Joyce Cary, James Joyce, Elizabeth Taylor, Jean Rhys, Jane Austen, George Gissing, J .D. Salinger,\u00a0 J.K. Rowling\u00a0to name but a\u00a0few and not\u00a0even including my shelf.<\/p>\n
When E.B. was writing Sidereal Days, <\/em>as a traditionalist, he saw only one route to getting a book published.\u00a0 The same route he used with Maps and Mapmakers of the Civil War<\/em>, published by Abrams in 1999. \u00a0Find an agent, who finds a publisher, who not only publishes the book, but has the means to distribute and find an interested audience for the book.<\/p>\n So he followed that route.\u00a0 Finished the book and looked for an agent.\u00a0 It was a tough sell\u2014not because the book wasn\u2019t good because it\u2019s fabulous.\u00a0 But because the industry changed!\u00a0 And no one wants to take a chance on an unknown\u2026.<\/p>\n We didn\u2019t realize the significant changes going on at the time.\u00a0 After his first agent rejection, he tried again.\u00a0 The second agent\u2019s return e-mail suggested that things weren\u2019t like they used to be.\u00a0 He continued on the traditional route after her e-mail, but an article in the Wall Street Journal<\/em> caught his eye\u2014and captured both of our imaginations.\u00a0 The article was about the new world of digital publishing.<\/p>\n It\u2019s funny how things happen.\u00a0 My traditionalist husband, who throughout the whole computer\/information age has been buried in books, reads the article and sees the benefit of going digital.\u00a0 I wasn’t skeptical, I just always thought the WSJ<\/em> was only good for a few stock tips, interesting editorials and a quick peak at the news!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" If one would walk into our house or office, the obvious first thing one would notice: books, many, many, many books.\u00a0 Predominately history books but there are shelves dedicated to Anthony Trollope, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Saul Bellow, Charles Dickens, Wright … Continue reading
